shot at 36th street and west street. ktvu channel 2 reporter jade hernandez joins us now from oakland with more on all this violence, jade. >> reporter: good morning. investigations are not unusual in oakland but last night the calls began rolling in. three shootings all within an hour as you minced. the first happened at foothill boulevard and 62nd avenue where a man was shot. someone shot the man in the back. let's take a look at that video right there. while officers were helping that victim someone drove up to them and reported another shooting on 79th avenue and holly streets. officers found a woman there. her finger had been shot off. paramedics rushed her to highland hospital. then decision patchers sent officers on their third shooting of the night. two victims were found in that shooting, a man and woman. their injuries were more severe, it appears they were sitting in their car when they were shot. both were rushed to highland hospital and surgery once they arrived. they are in critical condition. at this point these shootings don't seem to be connected but no information wa

're in the parking lot outside the w hotel where the victim was discovered this morning. neighbors showed us these tickets found here to give us some insight into the labor day party that ended in gunfire. police say a relative found the body of 26-year-old julius hubes. hubes was next to a wall near some bushes. >> there was a series of between five and 10 gunshot, very rapid fire. and then some very angry words then they used an expletive that wasn't a racial expletive that you don't want to hear. >> reporter: we found this picture of the pool party on faceback, faceback. >> when you have that many people into one area, i'm just thinking, there's going to be trouble tonight. >> reporter: up to 500 people were at the party when officers responded to the shooting. the hotel management asked them to disperse the crowd. they asked freemont and union city police officers for help. >> at that time no victims were reported or reported by area hospitals. >> reporter: the coroners office told us tomorrow an autopsy will be conducted to find out what killed hughes. >> that's sad. because this poor
>>> welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> i'm tortie campbell. >>> the u.s. coast guard begins to search the waters off marin county. it's in response to a frantic may day call. claudine wong has an update. >> good morning. i'm waiting for the coast guard to get back to me. we know yesterday, they spanned this area, from here, south to angel island. they are looking for the distressed caller. the problem is they don't know who or what they are looking for. all they know is a female caller called in a may day shortly before 10:00 last night. there was very little information. here's what the coast guard said this morning about that call. >> it was a woman calling, i have a may day. listen to me. listen to me. i have a may day. the coast guard of san francisco was able to reestablish communication with the woman. they never heard back from her. >> reporter: they also put out a call to other vessels for any type of distressed voters. they did send two vessels out on the water to search the waters for any sign of a distressed voter -- boater and that came up empty. they say
afternoon. topping our news this noontime, the u.s. coast guard is searching the waters off marin county after a mysterious mayday message. the frantic call came in last night. by using new equipment, the coast guard was able to estimate the location of the call as being made close to tiburon. ktvu's claudine wong joins us to learn if the search has made any progress. >> reporter: good afternoon. no, they've not made any progress. in fact, they've officially called this search off and still don't know who made this mayday call or why. but the coast guard does believe, they say, that the search has been extensive and they say new technology has -- was able to point them what -- point them in what they believe was right direction. >> mayday! >> reporter: that distress came in last night on marin channel 16. think of channel 16 as 911 for anyone on the water. >> the one thing we got was the word "mayday." and that's the signal for us to go out and search for anything. >> reporter: nothing else was ever heard from that caller. despite repeated efforts from the coast guard to get her back on
